Spatial proximity, a common language and similar regulations for construction projects make the neighbouring country of Austria an important market for German architects.
For building planning, GEZE Austria promises them a competent and efficient partner for products, systems and services for doors, windows and façades. This article shows how GEZE Austria comprehensively and holistically supports architects in all aspects of planning, and makes urban and rural buildings worth living in.
When they think of Austria, many architects might first think of the outstanding names in architecture: Josef Hoffmann, Friedensreich Hundertwasser or Hans Hollein. The most “outstanding” feature of Austria in the truest sense of the word is the Alps. Mountains cover 65 percent of the rural republic and yet, with nearly nine million inhabitants, it boasts among the highest economic growth.
State-of-the-art building technology for the promotion of growth
Two thirds of the population still lives in rural areas. The great appeal of cities such as Vienna, Graz, Linz and Salzburg is set to reverse this proportion over the next 30 years. By 2050 – according to forecasts – 70 per cent of the population will live in urban settlement areas. Master plans have been drawn up to promote rural development. With improved digitisation, mobility and infrastructure, these regions are to be further developed and strengthened as attractive residential and economic areas. GEZE Austria is contributing to creating buildings worth living in both in cities and in the countryside with modern building technology and services for doors and windows.
Door and window technology: support in all phases of construction
For many decades, GEZE has been an established partner in Austria for the planning, development and maintenance of buildings with door and window technology in combination with safety technology. A subsidiary was formed in Hallwang, near Salzburg, 20 years ago, which also provides support for countries in Southeast Europe. At GEZE Austria, a team of more than 100 employees supports architects, specialist planners, building owners and general contractors in all phases of construction:
GEZE experts provide support from
- the design phase, the technical planning and the invitation to tender
- the drafting of all feasible solutions
- the implementation of solutions
- with the GEZE standard programme

Specialist knowledge and industry expertise
The project teams have specialist knowledge and industry expertise as well as long-standing experience in a wide variety of building types and uses, whether in office buildings, hotels, hospitals or residential complexes.
Responsibility for projects
To ensure successful construction outcomes, GEZE Austria gets involved in projects at an early stage and accompanies them throughout the entire building life cycle. This starts out with the precise analysis of the use of a building as well as of the demands for door systems and window technology. GEZE’s experts form an efficient network with all the parties involved in construction, and provide inspiring impetus. They take responsibility for the joint development of solutions right from the planning and development phase of a building: all building demands are taken into account and aligned to the specific needs of building users and operators.
Door planning for entire buildings
Together with architects and planners, GEZE Austria also takes care of door planning for entire buildings and supports them in creating object-specific drawings, door lists, cable plans and with an architect hotline.
Doors and windows in the Smart Building
The creation of new modern and sustainable living spaces is closely linked to building automation, allowing buildings to be operated efficiently, energy-efficiently, safely and comfortably. This is achieved with GEZE Cockpit, the first smart door, window and safety system. Interdisciplinary networking means automated doors and windows can be operated “intelligently” – triggered either by time or an event.
GEZE BIMBIM Building Information Modeling objects: five elements for complete door planning
GEZE Austria enables architects to design and deliver construction projects faster, easier and more reliably through exchange between all the parties in the building process. The GEZE BIM solution comprises only five elements for complete door planning – from swing doors to sliding doors to revolving doors – and also offers a door library. GEZE BIM objects can be used globally and can be extended with country-specific information.
Comprehensive service and maintenance
GEZE Service doesn’t stop when the door and window systems are delivered. GEZE Austria supports them throughout their entire life cycle with customised service and maintenance.
Regular service ensures that the products function flawlessly:
- consistently high availability
- reliably safe operation
- value retention and extended service life
Individual solutions or service packages
The GEZE service contracts, which can either be scaled service packages or completely individually designed, allow every building operator or owner to find exactly the right solution: from regular maintenance to quick emergency intervention.
GEZE Austria also supports the networking, administration and maintenance of systems, advises on retrofitting or modernisation and the procurement of spare parts.

Current projects: automatic doors for health and mobility
The new Krankenhaus Nord
GEZE Austria’s latest major project is the largest and most modern health centre in Austria, the Krankenhaus Nord hospital in Vienna. This 785-bed hospital will commence regular operations in June 2019.
Accessibility and hygiene, safety and fire protection in combination with design
Over 4,500 automatic and manual doors in all hospital areas were equipped with GEZE door drives and door closers.
- Operating theatres and intensive care units: hermetically sealed, non-contact opening automatic doors
- Service areas: automatic swing and sliding door systems for highly frequented doors
- Entrances and main thoroughfares: barrier-free ease of access with sliding door systems with large opening widths
- Patient or treatment rooms: door closers, also door-integrated
- Station doors: barrier-free hold-open systems on fire section doors
The ÖAMTC Mobility Centre
GEZE Austria has implemented customised solutions at the new headquarters of the Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle and Touring Club (ÖAMTC) in Vienna, including automatic revolving doors and intelligent windows. Design and functionality were combined with safety to optimise operational processes, such as the handling of visitor flows.
